When in Andaman, there are quite a few local travel experiences that you shouldn’t miss. Some of these are a part of the fixed itineraries offered by tour operators. If you want to experience the others, you’ll need to get it added to your itinerary and plan your stay accordingly.

Here’s our list of local experiences that you can try out

1. Day long tour of Port Blair

The endearing city of Port Blair is one that most people think of only as a stop-over in their Andaman trip. The basic thought lies around Andaman being home to pristine beaches and why would someone want to spend their time in a bustling city

The full day tour of Port Blair will start at the iconic Cellular Jail. From it’s construction to troubled history, the jail will take you down a path of inspiring patriotism and sacrifice. Next, prepare to view the water world in a whole new light at the Samudrika museum. The next part of the day takes you to Asia’s oldest operational saw mill at Chatham. The day then meanders to Corbyn’s Cove beach where you can watch a calm sunset.

2. Baratang day excursion

Get ready for an adventure like never before. Start your day between 2 and 3:30AM where you leave your hotel to join the convoy heading into the Andaman rainforest. You’ll pass through the forest reserve to reach Baratang island. Here two exciting natural wonders await you. First comes the limestone caves that are also home to Andaman’s swiflet birds. The second is the awe-inspiring mud volcanoes that still continue to actively spew liquidy mud on to the nearby areas. Head back to your hotel in the evening

3. Day trip to Mount Harriet

This lesser trodden tourist path makes for an interesting choice to spend a day in Andaman. You can choose to either drive to the peak or trek to it. Trekking is a less common choice, but if you do choose this then make sure you start your day early. The peak offers a perfect view of the North Bay island and lighthouse featured in India’s 20 rupee note.

4. Day trip to Havelock

Most people plan their stay in Havelock to explore near by beaches. But if you are short of time, you can do this just in a day. This trip will take you on a jetty to two popular Havelock beaches. You can even take up snorkelling at this picture-postcard location and return back in the evening.

5. Game fishing tour

Available as a half or full day package as per your convenience. The tour will begin by training you in equipment handling and the works. Once you reach the designated location, it is time to indulge in all you fishing fantasies. The tour ends at 4 in the evening

There are many such one day experiences in Andaman. When put all together, it makes for a great itinerary too. Pick and choose as per your family and friends’ comfort zone and write to us all that you would like to experience.
