Planning your Andaman tour is an exciting time. It is also a time where you are saddled with a lot of questions, checking out various websites to see how many days you should stay, what you can include or exclude from your itinerary, where you can stay and what you can do. Unlike a simple beach destination, Andaman truly has a lot to offer to both the tourist and traveller. From places of historical significance to magnificent natural wonders, once you start reading all that Andaman has to offer, you’ll wonder if 7 days will be enough. So, let us help you put together your dream package, answering one question at a time.
In our two decades of experience in guiding our guests to get the best out of their Andaman experience, we have come across similar questions and concerns. We know that giving you all the information you need is imperative at this stage, but not overwhelm you with the nitty-gritties of the planning. That’s why we are here. Let’s get started
When is the best time to book an Andaman tour package?
Like most parts of India, Andamans peak season coincide with school vacations. The best time to visit is between October and March when the weather is pleasant. The second best time is between April and May when it is relatively hot and the first showers are likely to hit Andaman by end of May. Andamans is lovely during the monsoons too. But some of your itinerary may get disturbed by the rains. The package costs see a minimum fluctuation depending on the seasonality and demand. Vacation time is generally peak. Off-season during the monsoons is when you are likely to get a discount on the package rates.
Booking your Andaman package a minimum of three months in advance is advisable. This ensures that you don’t have to scramble for good hotel rooms in the last minute. We know that it is highly unlikely that you’ll spend much time in the room but some advance planning does help. The location of your hotel, the amenities it provides, the reviews and ambience all add up to your experience. Hotels go beyond clean linen and bathrooms. They anchor your experience in the destination. They also become your quick go-to source for information and help. When we suggest hotels to our guests, these are hotels that have been hand-picked primarily for their level of service over the years. You’ll be sure to have a great time there.
But we also fully understand if you are a last-minute planner. We do last minute bookings for Andaman packages often. It could mean increased cost due to seasonal flight tickets but it is possible. We also do bookings sometimes six months in advance – there are people who like to plan ahead and we like to ensure they have their options open too.
What type of hotels are available in your Andaman package?
From budget hotels to five star ones, you can find a range of hotels in Andaman depending on the package you choose. Andaman Holidays provides different packages which first depends on the number of days you choose. Once you do this, you can customize any package by picking the type of stay as it is a prominent determinant in your cost.
One important thing to note here is that the hotels in Andaman do not follow a central format of start rating. Some of the hotels may claim to be of a particular category but may not match the exact standards, but come close to it. The good filter is to check the number of rooms and the amenities.
Simple budget hotels cover the basics – bed and breakfast – but nothing fancy. A 3-star accommodation, on the other hand, generally offers a mix of amenities and location.
You can stay in a beach cottage in Havelock or a cottage amidst the jungles of Diglipur or a simple three-star facility in Port Blair. Most people have both Port Blair and Havelock in their stay list.
What you can insist for is a room with a view – after all views like that in Andaman aren’t easy to come by. The other important criteria for a hotel is the recent reviews it has received from guests. This is mostly available on a site like Trip Advisor.
Beware of sites that say that their Andaman package starts at INR 4000. They are likely to have hidden charges which will not reveal itself until you land here.
Our 3-night-4-day Andaman package starts at INR 14990. The inclusions and exclusions are clearly stated for each package so that you don’t have any ambiguity while booking.
Travelling to Andaman – What are the inclusions and exclusions of your Andaman tour package?
Andaman is easily among the most highly visited tourist destinations of India. Its far-flung location, tropical rainforests, ethereal beaches make it a much sought-after honeymoon destination too. Naturally, people from metro cities are more likely to explore Andaman for their next holiday. We’ve shared some quick notes on the mode of transport which is most preferred and what it will cost.
Air travel or other means of travel that brings you to the islands is excluded from your Andaman package. Having said that, if you need help in booking your flights, we can make an exception.
January to April is the best time to travel by sea to Andaman. October to December isn’t the best time as Andaman is prone to storms and cyclones at this time of the year.
Inclusions in your Andaman Package
Andaman Holidays is quite transparent about its package inclusions and exclusions. Being up front ensures the expectations are set right and even if there are additional costs, our guests are pre-informed and well aware.
Here’s what’s included:
- Accommodation: We take care of the hotel bookings at different locations during your stay. You get to pick the type of hotel i.e. budget or three star or such. Once you do, we pick the most relevant hotel that comes in the same type in all the locations you are staying. Now, here’s the catch. You may want a simple accommodation in Port Blair as it is a city and may not intend to spend much time in the room. During the same trip, you may want a luxury stay in a beach facing hotel in Havelock. We suggest that you look up the locations you wish to stay before you singularly go ahead and do your booking.
- Breakfast for select occasions during the stay: Depending on your number of days in the islands and your time of arrival and departure, your package will be inclusive of breakfast. The most common misconception propagated by the hotel industry is the concept of ‘free’ breakfast. There is no such thing as a free breakfast or lunch. In fact, the breakfast rate is included in the hotel rate. This works to a guest’s advantage as they get to start their day after a sumptuous meal and often tend to skip lunch if the itinerary is packed.
- Service of a professional guide at select places: When visiting an attraction like the Cellular Jail, even if you have read everything about it, there are some bits where the insights of a guide will come handy. A guide lengthens or shortens your trip with just the right amount of information depending on the time you have. Besides, a guide also ensures you don’t miss out on critical information and points during your visit. Besides, you also have someone who can take good photographs during the trip.
- Exclusive air-conditioned car: Right from the time you arrive, to all your sight seeing to your departure to the airport, you have an exclusive air conditioned car at your service during the trip. This allows you to pace your trip. Andamans has a tropical coastal climate and things can get hot and humid. The refuge of an air conditioned car does come to your rescue to make your travel comfortable.
- Meet and greet services: Right from the time you arrive, an Andaman Holidays expert is at your service. We ensure you reach your hotel well and are comfortably put in
- Entry tickets/ boat tickets / ferry tickets: As locals, we know the additional time it’ll take to garner entry tickets to attractions. Government ferry or private ferry boat tickets also take time to collect. We save your precious time by ensuring these are arranged and your trip is smooth. Besides, with the charges being inclusive in your package, you don’t have to worry about paying extra during your trip.
- Parking charges: Cars do require parking and the additional charges creep in if you haven’t factored it in advance. This is exactly what happens in the INR 5000 starting packages. The costs escalate later with little things like parking and entry tickets. We include this as a fixed cost in your package so that there are no surprises or payments required later.
Exclusions in your package
- Domestic and international air tickets: Because visitors come from all over India and abroad, it is very difficult to include air tickets in the package at a fixed cost. The cost also fluctuates with the time of booking and the seasonality. Therefore, it’ll be best if you book this online. However, if you need help, one of our agents can help you out
- Vehicle on disposal basis: Your air conditioned car is available to you based on the fixed itinerary of the trip. It may not be available to you otherwise. If you wish to have the car available to you at other times – like a free day – do let us know in advance so that we can arrange it for you at an extra charge.
- GST: This is applicable at 5% of the tariff you choose.
Kolkata to Andaman tour Packages
We remember one of our guests say that they bumped into people from Kolkata almost everywhere in Andaman. That’s true to a good extent as a majority of our guests come from Kolkata. They also form the people who come back for repeat visits as it Andaman is easily accessible and not very expensive to travel from Kolkata.
Peak season one way flights to Andaman in 2019 start at INR 3,500. Book a bit in advance or in the off-season to get an even better rate.
You can also take a ship to Andaman. This isn’t a cruise in it’s true sense so you may not have the benefits of a cruise entertainment, food options and more here. But it gets you to Andaman by the sea route. The price for Kolkata to Port Blair via sea ranges from INR 2500 – 10000. You see, it isn’t cheaper than flights and it definitely takes longer. With a flight time of 2:15, you’ll find Indigo, SpiceJet, Air India, GoAir and Vistara flying here.
The Kolkata – Port Blair ship frequents the to-fro trip three to four times a month. It takes 70 hours or approximately 3 days.
If you have time and want to try this out one way, its an experience that will add to your Andaman diaries. If time is of essence then go for flight bookings.
Mumbai to Andaman tour Packages
From one island to another, Mumbaikars are no strangers to beaches. But the beaches of Andaman and Mumbai vastly differ in the colour of the sand, the quality of water water (!!) and simply the overall beach feel. A lot of Mumbaikars plan a trip to Andaman to experience the destination that offers a mix of history, natural beauty and exploratory options.
Though prices tend to vary, the current peak season price for Mumbai to Andaman is approximately INR 7500 per person, one way. For a family of four, just the travel can come up to INR 60,000. It makes the journey more expensive compared to other cities. The flights also take longer as there are connecting flights from Chennai which make the travel time anywhere between 5.5 – 14 hours. Given that Mumbaikars are almost always short of time and in a constant state of hurry, the travel time and costs doesn’t make it a quick decision for them.
As of now, you can’t travel by sea from Mumbai but we certainly hope one of those amazing premium luxury cruises sail to Andaman soon.
Chennai to Andaman tour packages
With ample flights and shorter sail time, Chennai to Andaman packages are quite popular. Couple a long weekend with a few more days and voila, you can have a quick Andaman getaway of sorts.
Similar to Kolkata, Chennai Andaman flights also start at approximately INR 3500 and the flights take 2.15 hours only. The rates can fluctuate if you don’t pick the cheapest airfare so be sure to book in advance. Chennai to Port Blair by ship takes around 60 hours and costs run similar too. Many Andaman locals prefer to travel by ship as it keeps their costs at bay.
Vishakapatnam to Andaman tour packages
Vishakapatnam takes the shortest time by sea – just 56 hours. The flight time too is short but infrequent and sometimes can be as high as INR 8000. The government run cruise ships also operate from Vishakapatnam to Port Blair. The price ranges from INR 2630 for a bunk class, INR 6750 for the second class and INR 10240 for the deluxe cabin.
Bangalore to Andaman tour packages
Though it doesn’t feel so, Bangaluru is just 2 hours 40 minutes away from Andaman! That’s about the time Bangloreans take to reach office on some days. So the next time you are in traffic wondering how long it will take and see a flight above your head, it could well be someone from you city travelling to discover Andaman – and will probably get there sooner that you get to work!
Getting back to business, flights are the best way to get to Andaman. The peak time flights like they are now can cost over INR 5500 per person, one way.
Delhi to Andaman tour package
Delhi to Andamans flights takes over 5 hours. There is one non-stop Air India flight which takes 3h 35m. The flights start at INR 6500. Going to Andamans from Delhi is travelling from the North of India way down to the south. Its really great that flights allow us to cover the expanse in such short time.
Andaman tour itinerary for first timers
As with an information overdrive these days on the internet, there is way too much information about Andaman – enough to confuse a first timer on how may days to choose and what all to include in the itinerary.
While some of the finer things differ, everyone wants to visit the Cellular Jail, Havelock and the best beaches of Andaman. Of course, the natural attractions of the mud volcano and the limestone caves also are on top of the list.
So here’s how you do the planning for your Andaman trip
1) Start by booking your flights: As you have read above, flight tickets can extrapolate your budgets quite a bit if you don’t do so in advance. But to do that, you’ll need to know how many days you want to spend and to do that you’ll have to plan your itinerary. So let’s see how you can do that below
2) Number of days: The quickest way to pick the number of days is to go with 6 nights and 7 days. It will give you peace of mind that you will have enough time to check out the attractions. At the same time, if you have extra days, nothing like simply taking the day off and catching the sun and sand by the sea.
3) Choose your budget: Andaman can be done on a stingy budget or an extravagant one. Most people prefer to pick a budget hotel as you aren’t going to stay much in the room in most cases. Others who are on a leisurely stay want better options and don’t mind spending a little extra on the stay. Other little big things impacting your budget includes your local mode of transportation and places you choose to visit. Of course, the local shopping adds to it. Other activities like scuba diving and entry fees to select areas also matter.
The one tip to remember is to always think on how you have envisioned your vacation. If you want it action packed with adventure, you should definitely consider keeping budget aside for these. If you have thought of sunbathing right outside your cottage that opens into the beach, choose the accommodation that allows you to do it. Cutting short on the little things in your wish list will make you feel let down in your holiday experience. So choose wisely to invest in the right things.

Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive at Port Blair:
Most flights get you to Andaman early in the morning. You should book such a flight if you want to make the most out of this trip. Once you land in Andaman, you have time until afternoon to rest and refresh. Post which, we will take you on a quick tour of attractions around Port Blair – the Cellular Jail, the Anthropological museum, the navel marine museum and the cottage industries emporium. As you settle in, you will come back post sunset to the cellular jail to watch the sound and light show which is an absolute must see.
Try not to arrive on a Monday as this itinerary won’t work as the attractions are closed. Even then, the alternative plan is in place to take you for a nice afternoon at Corbyn’s Cove – a popular beach at Port Blair.
You can then stop by for dinner at one of the popular restaurants in Port Blair or come back to the hotel where you can have a relaxed dinner. Don’t stay up too long because day 2 is going to be equally action packed and filled with fun.
Day 2: Head to Havelock
Today is the day you will get to lay your eyes on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world – a slice of paradise called Radhanagar beach. You’ll take a local ferry to reach the beach. Pack well as you’ll be spending the night here at Havelock.
Day 3
After a good breakfast, you will head to Elephant beach where you can spend your day snorkelling to view the corals and the rest of the day relaxing on the beautiful white sand beach. The alternate plan will be to go to Kalapathar beach – which may materialize if Elephant beach is closed for some reason. You see, we like to plan for eventualities so that no matter what, you get a great experience.
Day 4
This day will depend on when you have a flight back from Andaman. If you have a sizeable portion of the day, you can spend it in local shopping in Port Blair and then get to the airport.
With 2 days of the city and 2 days with beaches, this itinerary is like a perfect getaway package that will leave you refreshed and ready to get back to life post vacation.

The cost and the price of Andaman travel
Andaman is one of India’s most sought after tourist destinations. It has a bit of something for everyone. Beaches, history, natural wonders and adventure thrills – you’ll find it all here. It is easily accessible from most parts of India. It is no less exotic that international beaches and destinations. And it is available at a price that is friendly to Indian pockets. The cost of Andaman travel works out much more economical if you compare the same with an international beach destination which has lesser to offer in terms of variety and experience. Of course, it is priceless in terms of the enrichment it will offer you and your family.
Do you need a customized Andaman tour package?
After seeing the array of options we offer, you must now have a good idea on which package covers the attractions you wish to cover and the experiences you want to have. You really don’t need customization unless there is an itinerary that is completely different from here as it will probably end up costing you extra. While many tour operators brazenly advertise custom tour options, they’ll not mention that it might end up costing you extra.
Andaman things to do
To choose the right itinerary, you need to know about all the activities available and then pick and choose what you want to do. This will directly impact your budget for the trip.
Most people choose the 6 nights, 7 days package that covers the best bits of Andaman. The package is inclusive of local travel within the islands, stay and entry tickets to attractions. In addition to this, you may want to add a half day scuba diving experience which can cost you extra.
Many people now want the off-beat option for travel. They will avoid the standard tourist traps like Havelock and instead head to a lesser known beach where you are likely to get more space and time for yourself. People take pride in the discovery of such ‘instagrammable’ locations. It is best to check with a local Andaman tour operator who can not only arrange for such a trip but also guide you on safety and regulations.
Solo travellers and backpackers also come with the agenda to explore local life. For them, staying in a less popular location and hotel too works just fine. You may not need an Andaman tour operator to plan your trip in this case, but it will be great to have one take care of your local bookings which keeps the paperwork in place while you get to enjoy your vacation at peace. Also, it is always good to have a a local well-networked operator to help you with whatever you need.
How to reach Andaman:
Now that you have the first part of your trip planned in terms of number of days, things to do and places to visit, we only have the travel details pending.
You can reach Andaman by flight – which is the most preferred option. You can also reach via a local ship. It’s cheaper but takes time and isn’t first choice simply because the transport is basic and not like a cruise. Besides, it is more often used by locals who frequently visit Chennai.
The timeline for holiday planning plays a very important role in curbing your costs. Booking early saves a few thousands on flight tickets as it is one of the big cost components in the overall scheme of things. Also, most flights are connecting flights with a pit-stop in Chennai or Kolkata.
The least expensive flights to Andaman for similar trips cost between INR 5800 – 8000 one way.
