No matter when you choose your Andaman travel, being safe and sound is our first priority. Here’s how to travel worry-free during your Andaman vacation
When we plan a picture perfect vacation, the first thing we do is to research the most popular tourist destinations and plan out the way we will spend our time there. And that’s how it should be if you have an expert local travel operator for your Andaman travel. But once the frills are done, it’s time to gain as much practical knowledge about the location too.
We almost never like to consider the worst case scenario and it’s most likely that you’ll never need the information below. Let’s think of it as a “Just In Case” that you need to keep handy.
YOUR ANDAMAN TRAVEL SAFETY CHECKLIST
1. Always check the latest weather report from trusted sources Weather is something that no one has control over. Sometimes, nature provides ample warning. At other times, things can change in a jiffy. The best thing to do is to check the weather a couple of days before you leave for any warning signs. Indications that it may get cloudy and rain a little can impact your plans quite a bit. If you already travelling during the monsoon, keep a check for local restrictions and timings on entering the costal areas. Check Andaman weather
2.Check if you have a local contact We all tend to know somebody who knows somebody. It’s time you do a little digging into your contact network to see if you know that somebody who is either a local or has been to the place and can give you a first-hand review. As such, there are tons of travelogues and reviews available online, which can come handy if you have the time to do online research
3.Secure your luggage From minor thefts to losing entire baggage, it becomes quite a pain when you have to face this situation in a new city. Lock and tag your suitcases at all times. Hold your purse in a way that the zip is on your front and your hand is always holding the zip area when you are in between a crowd. It’s best to not carry any valuable jewellery during travel. If you do take valuables in your luggage or bag, consider a Packsafe like option https://www.pacsafe.com/
4. Have emergency contact numbers both written and on your phone Every person in your group should have a copy of their own and local emergency contact numbers listed out on their phone and physically written in a piece of paper which is on them where ever they go. This may seem a little extreme but can be hugely helpful, especially for children. Most of us will be handicapped without our phone as we may not have memorized even our next kin’s number. Make sure you do this before your next trip.

5. Don’t get distracted
‘Acting’ like a tourist and attracting uncalled for attention is never a good thing to do. Blend in and go with the flow. Don’t forget to stay alert around your phone and wallets. Keep a mental note of the local area names around your familiar place so that you can ask for it if you are lost
Don’t take valuables to the beach
A lot of your Andaman travel will involve the beach. The beaches here are quite amazing and almost everyone loves to get their feet wet. On your designated days for snorkeling, scuba and sea walks, it is best to carry very little emergency cash and leave everything else locked in your room. If you are traveling only with your spouse and both of you plan to take the dip together, you may or may not find a safe place to keep your things.
- Choose an expert local tour operator to be your guideThe one thing that most people underestimate is the value of a local expert. It is not about having someone stage-manage your trip. The advantage of having a local expert plan things for you is that you have an ‘insider’ and go-to person in a new city if ever an emergency crops up. Having that is a big plus any day.
